On May 11, the Cesis Exhibition House (Cesis, Latvia) will host a concert dedicated to the 110th anniversary of Aram Khachaturian.
Khachaturian can be dubbed the greatest personality of Armenian culture in the 20th century. He was the first Armenian composer to introduce his country’s culture and music so broadly to the world. The concert will feature professor of the Latvian Music Academy Rafi Kharajanyan and his student Jeļena Lihvare, as well as composer and musicologist Georgs Pelēcis who has studied composition with Aram Khachaturian at the Moscow Tchaikovsky State Conservatory.


The concert programme includes a premiere of Aram Khachaturian’s “Suite for Viola and Piano” composed in 1929. The audience will also see the first European viewing of the film "Sonata-Song" with the music of Aram Khachaturian. The film is produced by Maxim Novikov.
Furthermore, there will be performances by a selection of young and talented Latvian musicians - pianists Olga Chepovecka and violinist Yevgeny Chepovecky.
The concert will be held at the Cesis Exhibition House on Saturday, May 11 at 17.00 o’clock.


The initiator of the concert is Maxim Novikov, a violist from Moscow living in Latvia since 2011.
Maxim Novikov has graduated from the Moscow Conservatory following studies with Yuri Bashmet. He performed many of the modern compositions of music for the premiere. Nowadays, such famous composers as George Pelecis, Vache Sharafyan, Eduard Airapetyan, Pavel Karmanov – devoted their viola works to Maxim. Together with Valentina Borisova, Maxim Novikov formed Duet Stanza, which won the first prize in the International V.Dulova festival-competition.
In March 2012 Maxim organized the first Festival «Spring Music Academy» in Latvia.
