Gould recorded volume 1 of The Art of the Fugue by Bach in 1962 in this church. Volume 2 never appeared. He used the church organ, made by Casavant Freres and of a very advanced design. The organ had been installed in 1960. Columbia Records sent a crew and the necessary equipment to Toronto in January 1962 to record in the church. The organ was destroyed by fire on September 7, 1966

Scholarly research conducted in order to understand and replicate authentic performances led naturally to the use of historical instruments. The Organ Reform Movement (Orgelbewegung) in Europe and North America fostered an intense interest in historical organs, which motivated builders to build new organs with mechanical key action. Believing in the tenants of this movement and responding to this interest, Casavant Freres resumed building mechanical action organs in the early 1960’s. Since then, over 200 instruments have been designed and built in the second generation of mechanical action organ building at Casavant Freres

Сразу после моего вот этого заявления меня уже поправила одна участница форума в частном письме.

Я пока не комментировал и не исправлял, так как не уверен. Слышал эту запись Гульда давно, и она у меня на катушке, очень лень возиться с ними.

У меня сложилось такое впечатление от специфического звучания инструмента - что орган не настоящий, а электронный. М.б., второй, маленький инструмент, на котором Гульд записывал часть "Искусства фуги", действительно был электронным - надо будет выяснить.

Одно можно предположить - что большой орган в церкви в Торонто имел электрическую трактуру. Попробую это выяснить.

Спасибо. Я не упорствую, но хотелось бы знать точно. Фирма могла строить и инструменты с механической игровой трактурой и с электропневатической-электрической параллельно.

Я пока не нахожу точных данных о трактуре конкретного органа, а было бы очень интересно.

В таком случае стоит им написать е-майл, тогда уж точно всё будет.

Тем более, вопрос касается Гульда, думаю, ответят.

Итак, нашел свидетельство, что трактура органа, на котором Г. Гульд записал "Искусство фуги", была электропневматической:

"Glenn Gould did record the first nine fugues from Bach's "Art of Fugue", using a Phelps-Casavant electro-pneumatic organ at a church in Toronto. The album is issued by Sony Classical, part of a complete Gould discography. I think I've played a bit in an "Art of Fugue" broadcast some years ago...best you search for the album on your own rather than await a rerun."
