28th Young Composer Competition ‘Frederic Mompou international Award’ 2007, Spain
Deadline: 1 October 2007
Open to all composers under the age of 35 on 31 December 2007. Works for piano, duration between 12-20 mins. The scores must make reference to Frederic Mompou’s compositions for the piano, whether in their sound, timbre or form. Prize: €5000.

International Composition Competition ‘Fairy-tale Sounds’, Italy

Open to all composers. Submitted compositions must be inspired by images, events, characters and settings of the Chinese and Far Estern fairy-tales, to be performed by children. Open to all composers. Works for classical guitar, duration max 10 mins. Prize: €2000. The prize-winning work will also constitute the set piece in the Second Qualifying Round of the XXIV "Andrйs Segovia" International Classical Guitar Competition, the performer giving the best interpretation will receive a the “Leo Brouwer” award of €700.

2007 Double Bass Composition Competition, England

Open to all composers born or resident in any European Union country. Works for 2 catagories:

1. a one movement work for solo double bass and string orchestra based on the two existing bars of the ‘lost’ Double Bass Concerto by FJ Haydn, duration between 6-8 mins. Prize: stg Ј450. Entry fee: stg Ј7.50.
2. a work for double bass quartet based on the ground bass from J Pachelbel’s Canon in D major, duration: no limit. Prize: stg Ј150. Entry fee: stg Ј5.00.
