The anniversary concert of Maija Einfelde (1939) will bring together lifelong musical colleagues – physically on the stage and spiritually, in their memories. We will hear Einfelde’s wonderful ‘Three Songs of the Sea” (1995), dedicated to the former orchestra of Normunds Šnē Riga Chamber Musicians; probably her most beautiful piece – the slightly phantasmagorical watercolour painting “My Childhood Home” (1999) as well as the premiere of her String Quartet (2009), completed a short while ago in autumn and curtly commented by Einfelde: “No programme, just music.”

Next to the opuses by Maija Einfelde we will hear Andante replicato (1963) by her composition teacher Jānis Ivanovs (1906 – 1983), Five pieces for piano composed by her friend and comrade Artūrs Grīnups (1974) and The Fate of the Children of Lear (2009) by her student Mārtiņš Viļums (1974), transcribed for a mixed choir and premiered in Strasbourg, in new music festival Musica on September 30 by Latvian Radio Choir, led by Kaspars Putniņš. The list of the participating musicians next to orchestra Sinfonietta Rīga, its string quartet and the young, public favourite pianist Agnese Egliņa will feature composer’s close musical comrades who have significantly stimulated her creativity – Latvian Radio Choir and Kaspars Putniņš as well as Normunds Šnē. Orests Silabriedis will narrate the concert and converse with Maija Einfelde.
